Friday Confessional- I admit

- to the fact that I stopped attending Church in November with a plan to find a different church that was more biblically oriented and a good youth program-  as I have so much to learn and no idea how to teach this kiddo.

- to political drama being the 'last straw' in my decision to leave

- to not finding that new Church yet

- to not having any idea how to find, said "New Church"

- to knowing- beyond a shadow of a doubt- that nothing will change, until I find this new house of worship. He is waiting on me.

it's tough to find a church. I church hopped for four years, and then finally came back to the church I grew up in. so, I don't have any good thoughts on that one for you...

Ack.. I feel for you. I haven't been attending, but I think it is important for my kids to have a church (whether or not that is a good reason). I just think about the help I might need during those rough years..and male role models and just good peers there. I found one I may consider after spending way too many nights on-line reviewing them.. pathetic huh. Shopping for a church on-line.. I thought about one in my neighborhood but out of 99 First Communion photos on their website, there was not a single nonwhite face in the bunch.....

Church "shopping" takes a lot of energy. We are at a crossroads right now and don't know where we are going next. Today we are going to stay home, watch a sermon from David Platt on the internet and download worship music videos to sing as a family. Our next church we will go to will have less infrastructure to support, allowing more giving outside the church. We want something simple and regardless of size, somewhere where we can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and a place where people are being prepared and sent out to serve all over the world.

We remind ourselves too that it is not about us, it's about God. So, wherever we end up, if there is something we don't like, such as the music, it doesn't matter if the Holy Spirit is there.

Best of luck!!

That is so hard. I love my church, and I know there is a congregation near you (and they have an AWESOME program for children starting at 18 months through 18 years) but every one's needs are so different.

You are so faithful and wonderful. I am sure God will direct you to where you need to go. Pray for him to lead you to a good place. I will too.

Church shopping IS so difficult. We are Unitarian Universalist and started to attend a wonderful Episcipalian (sp?) church for a year, because it was more diverse and was in our town and not a 40 min drive away. We are now back at our UU fellowship 40 min away because one thing the wonderful people whom I admire deeply at the Ep. church taught me is that I am truly UU. So I say, go out and live the experience and the journey will teach you the way. Along the way you will meet wonderful people and discover some truths about yourself.

I do believe in organized religion (as a UU we have no 'rules' saying we have to go to church so...) the community we have found sustains us. And like Tammy, I have found the Holy Spirit there in that sweet place more than any other congregation I have been in.
