Then. Now. Future...

It won't be like this for long. This I know. Right now they still play well together, mostly. They are close in size, but their formerly defined roles are beginning to be challenged. The differences on how they are being raised, will begin to be even more challenging as they begin school. It's been a good 2 years for these two. Bumpy times are beginning. More will come. But such is the life as cousins. It is the way it has always been.

Oh, Shiver! I was having thoughts along these very lines at a play date today.... especially the differences in how they are being raised bit. And really, the how come I'm always the mean mom enforcing rules while cool mom is rushing to buy treats bit too. Darn that Atlantic Ocean, girl, I would love a play date / mama rant session with you guys!

Yep. Totally there with you, and we're so brand-new at this game. We were with cousins for this first time this weekend and it quickly became oh-so-clear what kinds of complications will arise. But you're right that it's the way it has always been. I grew up closely with two cousins, and we couldn't be more different now. BUT...I still cherish those memories of playing He-Man and She-Ra in their summer kitchen/playroom.

I recently reconnected with cousins after 35 years and I think as adults we can and will become friends. But, when we were little we had the stricter parents and it was difficult to the point that we went without having extended family close by.
